Questions About Prescription Monitoring Programs
Questions About PMP AWARxE Database
How do I manage delegates for my account?
The Delegate Management screen in your User Profile allows you to view or edit the account information of delegates on your account. You can view, reject, or remove delegates from this screen.
More information about delegate management is available in the state PMP AWARxE User Support Manual under the Managing Delegates section.
How do I change my password?
Under User Profile you have the option to reset your password. You can also reset a forgotten password from the login screen by clicking “Reset Password”.
More information about password management is available in the state PMP AWARxE User Support Manual under the Password Management section.
What does the message “Multiple patients identified” mean?
This means multiple patients were identified as matching your search criteria. The administrator must manually consolidate these records. Once these patient records are correctly consolidated this message will not appear again for this patient record.
More information about multiple patient records is available in the state PMP AWARxE User Support Manual under the Multiple Patients Identified section.
Why are my patient search results blank?
Blank patient Rx request results occur when the patient being searched for is found with no prescription records for the time period specified. If you believe this is an error, please contact the Helpdesk number located in the upper right corner of this screen for assistance.
Where can I view my old patient Rx search results?
In RxSearch, under Request History, you will find a list of all patient searches you or your delegates have performed in the last 30 days. This list includes successful requests and results, and results that are pending processing by the state PMP Administrator. Requests older than 30 days will not be displayed in this list.
Why do my request results say, “No matching patient identified”?
This occurs when no patient records match the search criteria entered or are not found in the time period specified. If you believe this is an error, please contact the Helpdesk number located in the upper right corner of this screen for assistance.
I want to report missing or incorrect information.
If you believe information is missing or incorrect, the first step is to contact the pharmacy that filled the prescription. Pharmacies and dispensing physicians submit information to the NM PMP – neither the NM BOP PMP staff nor Bamboo Health will add, edit, or delete any dispensing information. If information is incorrect, the dispensing pharmacy/physician will need to make the correction directly within the PMP database.
I’m not an authorized user, but want to request a PMP report.
Certain individuals are allowed to request a PMP report per State Rules. Please refer to PMP Resources and select the appropriate form to request a PMP report.
Dos and Don'ts
Do
DO notify your patients that you use the PMP.
DO check the PMP by running a request on the patient prior to prescribing or dispensing a controlled substance. Physicians are required by State Law to check PMP patient reports. Refer to your licensing board’s regulations for the most current regulation. PMP Regulations Section.
DO discuss any findings of concern directly with your patients .
DO listen to your patients when they say the PMP is in error, and contact the dispensing pharmacy to help verify if there are questions.
DO use behavioral and/or pain contracts with patients where appropriate.
DO report confirmed forgeries to the Board of Pharmacy and local law enforcement.
DO inform us of non-reporting pharmacies.
DO inform us of drugs, pharmacies, or practitioners that don’t show up on the PMP or don’t translate properly.
Don’t
DON’T use the PMP to exclude potential patients prior to engaging them.
DON’T discharge patients without intervening and attempting to refer for substance abuse treatment or pain management. Please refer to “Prescription Drug Abuse” for useful links.
DON’T share your password with anyone. If you need someone to request a PMP patient report, have that person register as a delegate. Refer to “Delegates and Supervisors” for more information. Authorized Delegates may query, but the practitioner is responsible for reviewing each report.
DON’T refer suspected “Doctor Shoppers” or “Pharmacy Shoppers” to police, where your only source of data is the PMP. Contact the patient’s provider(s) and discuss the concerns and associated risks with the provider and/or patient.
DON’T provide a patient a copy of their PMP report. Patients can request their own PMP report. (See the Forms section of the PMP Resources Section.)
DON’T provide a PMP patient report to law enforcement. Law enforcement can request their own PMP report. (See the Forms section of the PMP Resources Section.)
DON’T believe information from the PMP is the absolute truth. There can be errors. Contact the dispensing pharmacy to confirm any questionable information on the PMP.
Dispenser Data Collection
The answers to many of these questions can be found in the PMP Data Submission Dispenser Guide
Prescription Data and Reporting requirements
What is the NDC Code?
The National Drug Code is an 11 digit number used to identify drug strength, name, quantity etc. This number is found on the medication bottle.
What drugs should be reported?
The New Mexico Prescription Monitoring Program collects dispensed controlled substance information in schedules II-V, and gabapentin, as a non-scheduled “drug of concern.”
How often should I submit data?
All Dispensers shall report within one (1) business day of a prescription being filled. If a dispenser did not dispense any controlled substances or gabapentin, a “zero report” should be submitted.
How are compounded prescriptions to be recorded?
Prescriptions compounded by the pharmacist and containing a controlled substance must be reported. To submit a compound controlled substance, the field DSP07 must indicate this by the value ’06’ for compound. Subsequently, DSP08 must then be reported as eleven “9’s” or 99999999999. By reporting the value in DSP07 as ’06’, the CDI segment then becomes a mandatory or required segment. The CDI segment will require that reportable controlled substances be reported in increments of 1 in field CDI01; the NDC code is reported as ’01’ in CDI02; and the NDC of those reportable ingredients is provided in CDI03. The quantity is provided in metric decimal format in CDI04; and the Drug Dosage Units Code is reported in CDI05.
Why is the system rejecting the input metric quantity?
The metric quantity should be the number of metric units dispensed in metric decimal format.
